Virginia's Natural Bridge

Since embarking on our RV adventure over 3 years ago, we have traveled on Interstate 81 through most of Virginia at least 4 or 5 times.  Each time, seeing a number of signs, signposts and advertisements for the Natural Bridge, we've commented that we must plan to stop there sometime, but usually we've been on a schedule to be somewhere and did not have the time to stop.  This trip, before leaving PA in the middle of October, we decided that this natural wonder would be our initial destination on our Southbound trip.  We found a campground, made a reservation for two nights and had a whole day to visit the bridge and a nereby cavern.  When we departed PA, the weather forecast did not look too favorable, but we were fortunate to have a beautiful day and a visit that was more interesting and picturesque than we had imagined.  Click here and enjoy sharing the views.

Let's Take a Trip to Niagra

Wow, it has been quite a long time since our last blog entry.  We have been in PA for the entire Summer but hope to be heading out again around the middle of October and I'm sure you will be hearing more from us after that.

Last weekend we took a family trip to Niagra Falls.  As close as we've all lived to the falls, none of us had ever been there before with the exception of some overflights as we traveled to other destinations.  We had a two night stay at Branches of the Niagra Campground which is brand new, nicely done, comfortable and only about 10 miles from the falls.  Most of the day on Saturday was spend viewing the falls and exploring Goat Island and we hope you can get some sense of it from the photos.

In May, Vickie and the twins joined us in Florida and we spend a number of very nice days at Fort Pickens which is located on a barrier island near Pensacola.  We also met up with another daughter, Tracy, at Montgomery, AL, then went on to spend several days in Tunica, MS.

Some Return Visits

Air Force Armament Museum
You may remember a trip we enjoyed with Mary and Bill during the Summer of 2009. We were pleased that they were able to join us for a while here in Florida following their Winter escape to such places as Branson, MO and various points south. Unfortunately, their 'escape' found them encountering plenty of the snow they were hoping to avoid in such unlikely places as Oklahoma and Texas! They finally arrived here in The Sunshine State, only to find it cool (no, quite chilly) with nights below freezing. Go figure. If you've followed the weather patterns at all this year, you know that even Tampa, Orlando and points even further toward the southernmost tip of Florida were not exactly what one would usually expect; however, we've been very happy to be here as opposed to the area stretching between the Carolinas and New York.
During Mary and Bill's visit, we took them to some locations that Deb and I had visited before and I'm including some photos from these trips.
The Air Force Armament Museum at Eglin Air Force Base near Fort Walton Beach is the only museum in the world dedicated to the collection , preservation and exhibition of artifacts and memorabilia associated with Air Force Armament and its delivery platforms. Although I've shared some pictures of items at this location from our tour of the site in December, 2007, this time there are quite a few more photos with some descriptions included.
We also took our motorhome on a trip to the extreme Northwest corner of Mississippi. This was the fourth time Deb and I had been to Tunica and our third trip to the river park in the area. I'm including some new photos of this area as well as a link to pictures from an earlier blog entry when the river was flooded. The difference is astounding.

Let it Snow

We know it is no big deal for many of you reading this after all the snow that has fallen in most parts of the country this year, but it is a big deal here in Florida. Yes, we actually had some snow fall here on Friday. For us it was just about 30 minutes of large, heavy flakes that melted when they hit the ground, but just a bit to the West and North of us, there was some accumulation and in other parts of the Deep South, there was actually some heavy accumulation with covered highways, frozen bridges, etc. Of particular note; many people, especially children, in the area had never experienced snow before and there were school closings, etc. throughout the area. According to the National Weather Service, at one point on Friday there was snow on the ground in every state except Hawaii.
Thanx to Dick, our neighbor, you can click here to see two photos as proof of snow falling here in Holt, Florida.
